NEW BLACK DAILY PAPER TO LAUNCH IN NEW YORK A new daily newspaper geared toward African-Americans is scheduled to debut Sept. 10 on New York City streets. The Daily Journal will cover news on local, national and international fronts and issues of relevance for African-Americans living in the New York area. The tabloid’s publisher, General Media Strategies, has also published the weekly African-American Observer for eight years. Owner Steve Mallory – who will also be the Journal’s publisher and executive editor – told Editor & Publisher that the Observer’s success made it possible for him to start the new daily. The Sept. 10 debut edition will include news on everything from business, sports and entertainment to world news and coverage of rap, hip-hop, jazz and African and Caribbean music. General Media Strategies plans to distribute around 50,000 copies of the Daily Journal throughout all the city boroughs at 35 cents a copy.
