War coverage relies on trusted sources

Operation Enduring Freedom has been described as a conflict unlike any fought by the U.S. armed forces in recent history, but wartime news coverage has been remarkable for its continuity with the past. Journalists involved in covering the military say their efforts have involved the same basics of sourcing and data collection familiar to their predecessors who wrote and broadcast about the Balkans, Operation Desert Storm or even Vietnam.
